What is an SEG Lightbox Frame?

An SEG (Silicone Edge Graphic) lightbox is a backlit display system that combines three components: an aluminum frame with built-in LED lighting, a printed fabric graphic with a silicone edge, and a channel system that holds the graphic taut against the frame surface. The result is a bright, seamless, frameless illuminated display.

modulstand SEG lightbox frames are built on the same 62mm profile standard as our entire frame system. This means your lightbox frames connect directly to your straight frames, curved frames, and door frames using the same M26 connectors and reinforcements. No separate system, no adapters – one unified modular ecosystem.

  • ✓ Seamless, frameless illuminated appearance
  • ✓ Fabric graphics swap in seconds - reuse the frame forever
  • ✓ Integrates with the full 62mm modular frame system
  • ✓ 6063-T6 anodized aluminum - same quality as all modulstand frames
  • ✓ Tool-free assembly and graphic installation

Two Lighting Architectures: Choose Your Approach

Every exhibit project has different visual requirements and budget constraints. modulstand offers two distinct lightbox configurations so you can match the right solution to each project.

SideLED cross-section diagram

SideLED - Edge-Lit Lightbox

LED light strips are mounted along the top and bottom edges – or left and right sides – of the frame profile. Light projects inward across the SEG fabric surface from the edges. This is the simpler, more cost-effective lightbox configuration.

  • Light direction: Edge to center illumination
  • Frame depth: Single 62mm profile
  • Best for: Standard trade show backwalls, moderate-size displays
  • Max recommended size: 992 × 2976mm per frame
  • Cost level: Standard
  • Uniformity: Good, with possible edge gradient on larger panels

Choose SideLED when budget matters, when display sizes are moderate, or when the lightbox is part of a larger mixed structure rather than the sole visual focus.

PREMIUM
BackLED cross-section diagram

BackLED - Backlit Lightbox

LED modules are mounted on the rear surface of the frame, behind the SEG fabric, and secured with a fabric backing. Light projects forward directly through the graphic for highly uniform illumination with reduced hot spots and edge gradients. This is the premium lightbox configuration for maximum visual impact.

  • Light direction: Back to front direct illumination
  • Frame depth: Double profile (124mm) or custom depth
  • Best for: Premium brand displays, large-format walls, retail installations
  • Max recommended size: Project-specific structural review
  • Cost level: Premium
  • Uniformity: Excellent for even illumination across the surface

Choose BackLED when the lightbox is the primary visual centerpiece, when serving premium brand clients, for retail environments, or for large-format installations where uniform illumination is critical.

Three Light Source Options for Every Application

All three light source options are available for both SideLED and BackLED configurations. Mix and match across your project as needed.

LED

Standard White LED

Consistent white illumination for most SEG lightbox trade show displays and exhibit backwalls. Color temperature, module specification, and output level are matched to project requirements [SPECS NEEDED].

Best for: Trade shows, exhibitions, corporate events, standard retail

RGB

RGB Color-Changing LED

RGB or RGBW LED modules can support brand-color effects, ambient atmospheres, and color transitions when paired with the correct controller. Control method and module specification are project-specific [SPECS NEEDED].

Best for: Brand experiences, event atmospheres, premium retail, hospitality

ADVANCED

Dynamic LED Animation

Programmable animated lighting effects can include color waves, moving patterns, sequential illumination, and attention-focused visual sequences when paired with a suitable controller. Programming scope and electrical specification are confirmed per project [SPECS NEEDED].

Best for: Premium brand activations, experiential marketing, flagship retail, high-traffic exhibit spaces

Lightbox Frame Sizes

All lightbox frames follow the 62mm size rule. Standard sizes are listed below. Custom sizes available for any dimension that is a multiple of 62mm.

Frame Size (mm)SKUTypeWeight

Additional sizes available. All lightbox frame dimensions must be multiples of 62mm. Contact us for custom sizes and configurations.

Single-Sided Lightbox

LED illumination on one side. Ideal for wall-mounted displays, backwall configurations, and structures where only the front face is visible. Slimmer profile, lower cost.

Double-Sided Lightbox

LED illumination on both sides. Perfect for freestanding displays, aisle dividers, island booths, and any installation viewed from multiple directions. Maximum visual impact.

Flexible LED Supply Options

We understand that exhibit builders often have existing LED suppliers or specific lighting preferences. That’s why we offer complete flexibility in how you source LED strips for your lightbox frames.

Bundle LED with Frame Order

Order LED strips together with your lightbox frames for a coordinated supply package. We match the LED specification to your frame size and light source selection. Arrives configured for the project scope after specification review.

Source Your Own LED

Use your own LED supplier or existing inventory. We provide wiring diagrams, connection specifications, and mounting guides so your selected LEDs can be reviewed for integration with our lightbox frame profiles.

Why Bundle?

  • ✓ Lower combined price than sourcing separately
  • ✓ LED spec reviewed to match frame profile
  • ✓ Configured for your exact frame sizes
  • ✓ Single supplier coordination for support
  • ✓ Simplified logistics - everything ships together

Lightbox FAQ

SideLED (edge-lit) places LED strips along the frame edges, projecting light inward across the graphic. BackLED (backlit) mounts LED modules behind the graphic, projecting light forward. BackLED provides more uniform illumination, especially on larger displays, but uses a deeper frame profile and costs more. SideLED is simpler and more cost-effective for standard-size displays.

Yes, if your existing graphics use standard silicone edge (SEG) beading. The SEG channel on modulstand lightbox frames follows common industry practice. Lightbox displays require backlit-specific fabric; standard non-backlit SEG fabric may appear faded or uneven when illuminated from behind.

You have two options. You can bundle LED strips with your frame order for coordinated specification review, or source your own LEDs if you have an existing supplier. If you source your own, we provide wiring diagrams and connection specifications to support proper integration.

Yes. All modulstand lightbox frames use the same 31mm holes, 62mm center-to-center spacing, M26 connectors, and M8 reinforcements as every other frame in the system. You can connect a lightbox frame directly to a straight frame, curved frame, or door frame.

For SideLED, we recommend a maximum of 992 × 2976mm per frame for optimal light uniformity. For BackLED, maximum size depends on structural support requirements and project review. Larger lightbox walls can be built by connecting multiple frames together.

LED strips connect to an external power supply unit selected for the final LED configuration. Wiring routes through the frame profile and exits discreetly at the base. Exact voltage, controller, and power requirements are confirmed per order [SPECS NEEDED].

Quality LED modules can typically reach 50,000+ hours under suitable operating conditions, but actual lifetime depends on module selection, installation, heat management, and operating schedule. LED modules can be replaced without disassembling the frame.

modulstand lightbox frames are designed primarily for indoor use in exhibit halls, retail environments, and corporate spaces. Outdoor projects require additional weatherproofing, electrical, and structural review before production.
